Why I love this app. (User rating 5 out of 5)
by Perlisle
“First of all, I am serious about studying the Bible but even if I weren’t, this would be a great app. There are many free translations and commentaries. As you get deeper into Bible study, you can buy more translations at reasonable prices. One of my favorite paid for translations is the ESV Strongs. In this translation, I can tap or move the cursor over a word and it will give me the Strongs number as well as the Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic translation. You can then search for other versions of that word. The next one I pay money for will be the completer Greek and Hebrew Bible which is pricey but less than the print version.
The greatest thing about it, in my opinion, is the free account that Olive Tree gives you. You sync it and this will happen regularly in the background if you forget but I do it manually when I finish a study and then your bookmarks, your highlights and your notes are available on all your devices. So, if I’m in the airport reading it on my phone and make some quick notes (you can do voice to text if you prefer) and synch it, they will be available later on desktop, my laptop or my tablet. This is a great Bible app. I have Logos silver but this is what I use.
I occasionally use the online interlinear but less and less since I bought the Strong’s ESV and probably not at all after I get the Greek and Hebrew Bible. I tell friends to get this app frequently. No one has ever complained.”

And the Winner is … (User rating 5 out of 5)

“Over several decades I have tried them all, going back to the earliest Quickverse and PC Study Bible on floppies. The evolution of Bible software has paralleled the advancement in digital technology and it’s been an adventure. Through it all, I never gave up my text library, as ultimately sitting with an open book remained a more comfortable mode of study as I prepared my Sunday sermons. But with the arrival of Bible Study 6.0 I have begun replacing my hard copies with a digital library. Using 6.0 for Mac is so smooth and easy, intuitive, and uncomplicated that my Bible study flows smoothly and easily and doesn’t get in the way of inspiration. To my way of thinking, if you have to take courses and read manuals on how to use a Bible app, it defeats the purpose. Although I still have 7 or 8 other Bible programs, as of now, Bible Study 6.0 is the first one open and last one closed. And, as I add books it is more and more becoming the only Bible program I open during a study session. So, for my money, the clear winner in the Bible app competition is Olive Tree.”

Fantastic Functionality, Great Value, but…  (User rating 3 out of 5)

“I have been an Olive Tree user for years and this application has been invaluable in my MDiv studies. I understand that other Bible Study applications may be more powerful, but the costs are prohibitive. I consider Olive tree to be about 75% of Logos for <10% of the price (considering the in-app purchases required to build a decent library), making it a great tool at a great price. My problem with the application is its lack of stability. After the update prior to the current one, Olive Tree would only work for about 10 minutes prior to freezing. Olive Tree support was very responsive, but their solutions did not improve stability. It was with great rejoicing and anticipation that I installed the current version with its promise of better stability, but the app still freezes after about 10 minutes of work. If Olive Tree is able to well and truly fix whatever bug is causing this behavior I will be happy to give the app a 5-star review.”
